When I started off in the Bay Area, it was rare to find a tripod set up away from the coast.

"The Perfect Storm" (2020)

The 2020 spring season was certainly one of the best ever in California. It began with day after day of stunning Bay Area fog, transitioning into stormy skies with heavy late-season rains, epic light almost daily above brilliant green rolling hills, that quickly became carpeted in a once-in-a-decade superbloom of flowers.

In addition, while I mourn the situation created by covid-19, and put safety first in all my journeys, the 2020 shelter-in-place allowed for unique and powerful opportunities to create. There was no traffic blocking the way to photoshoots. There was reduced pollution throughout the state, resulting in amazing visibility and clarity of sky and light. The silver lining of Covid-19 was a landscape artist’s dream. It was a formidable challenge to avoid the more popular “classic” locations (as was often necessary to maintain proper distancing), but that turned out to be a blessing in disguise — it forced me to explore unique territory, and come up with powerful compositions that I could truly call my own.
